Onehouse On The Map At Last
After years of trying to find Onehouse on road maps from Phillips, Collins, the AA and the RAC, at last it has been put on a road map supplied by, of all people, the Premier Travel Lodge group. They even have the correct direct route from Stowmarket shown.
Perhaps this will mean an end to lorry drivers going along Lower Road and trying to get up Cutler’s Lane to reach us. How long before we have an end to the lorry drivers asking for the Harleston industrial estater?
Onehouse Road Works
At long last the powers that be have got round to putting in dropped kerbs at strategic points around Northfield estate to enable wheelchair and pushchair users to cross from one pavement to another safely to access houses on both sides of the road.
Now all that remains is for the inconsiderate car owners to stop parking their vehicles on the pavement forcing the above users to either negotiate an undropped kerb or to use a dropped kerb some distance from where they want to go and take their chances in the traffic on the road.
House Safety
There have been a number of burglaries in the local area recently and it appears that some people are still too trusting in this day and age. Even if you are only popping over to a neighbours for a minute or two, it only takes a few seconds for an opportunist thief to walk in an unlocked door, pick up some small items of value, or your keys left thoughtfully in easy reach, and you are left in turmoil.
Please don’t hide your head in the sand and say it cannot happen in our villages – it can - and has!
Sunday 10th July
ONEHOUSE OPEN GARDENS
It was a lovely hot sunny day when 10 gardens in Onehouse were open to the public in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
There were ice creams for sale, along with teas/coffees and scones, a plant stall and a cake stall. Novelty EAAA items were also for sale. Despite other attractions around and about, mainly the VE Day celebrations in Stowmarket, large numbers of people descended on the village.
There was even a fly -past of vintage aeroplanes soon after 2pm which flew very low over Onehouse, a premonition of a good day ahead.
When all the money was collected in we raised £650 which has been passed to the EAAA and we have a nice certificate from them which we hope to display in the Church Room.
We would like to thank the following people who opened their gardens and gave up their time for such a worthy cause - Angela and David Salmon, Margaret and Vic Bennett, Pauline Llewellyn, Irene and Gary Miller, Marian, Tony and Alistair Usher, Derek and Pauline Ames, Ann Bailey, Ruth and Ron Abbs and Diana and Clive Taylor.
We are hoping to do it all again next year, this time in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
Thank you all once again for your support
