News - September 2005

It may seem a long time now, but we had another successful Village Fete on Sunday 3rd July.

The young ones had a wonderful time on the Quad Bikes, Pony Rides, Bouncy Castle and Roundabout and with the Pre-school Activity Tent,  Face Painting and the Children’s Tombola, Lucky Ladder, Bat-a-Rat, Penalty Shoot-out and not to forget the Wet Sponge Throwing , all run by members of the Youth Club.

The adults didn’t lose out either, with the Golf (which was won by a hole-in-one) and the Target Darts which went to a nail biting climax with a three way shoot-out. There was also tea and cakes from the Womens Guild, Tombola and Bottle Bola etc, run by the Over Sixties Club, and of course the BBQ admirably run by volunteers at short notice.

The day raised slightly over £1200 which will go to towards the upkeep and running of your Community Centre.

Last but not least I would like to say a big THANK YOU to every one who worked so hard to make the day a success and also to all who attended and supported the Fete.

News - July 2005

The roof of the OHS Community Centre has been damaged again by someone, or some people, throwing stones or bricks at it!

Please, can people be vigilant when near to the Community Centre. Any suspicious activity by individuals or groups needs to be reported to the Police immediately.

The OHS Community Centre is a valuable resource shared by the three villages.

On 4th June, a very successful evening of live music was held in the hall. We had five local bands, they all had put a lot of effort into their work and played their sessions with great gusto. Their talent was very impressive, entertaining a large audience of mostly young people, (the not so young enjoyed it as well). The proceeds from the evening were in excess of £300-00 and will go towards the running of the Community Centre and Playing Field.

The bands were 'Jason Gigalo And Stepaside', 'Steela 3 Wheeler', Vera Dodd', 'Anagram' and 'Fluid', who also did a great job organising it all.

We thank them all for a great evening, and for sharing their talents with us, we wish them every success in the future, they surely deserve it.

News - May 2005

Another successful Quiz Night took place at the Community Centre on April 16th with Steve Markell again doing an excellent job as Quiz Master.

There was a very good turn out with twelve teams taking part. It was good to see our friends from Harleston again, also Chris, landlord of the 'Shepherd and Dog' and friends.

Thanks to all who came to pit their wits and to everyone who donated raffle prizes. The money raised on the night was well over £100.00 and will go towards the upkeep of your Community Centre.

The management committee give a very big Thank you' again to Steve for all his hard work in making the Quiz Night so enjoyable.

Table Top Sale 2005

A successful table top sale was held on Sat 12th February, all fifteen tables were used by individuals and various user groups. The bacon rolls and refreshments went down a treat, many thanks to Carolyn and Carol who were kept very busy, and did a sell out trade. It is planned to hold another sale in the Autumn.

An Easter Bingo session will be held in the Community Centre on Sat 12th March at 8.00pm, this is always a lively evening and a good night out for all the family, so why not pop along and join the fun.

Redecoration

The Management Committee would like to propose a vote of thanks to all the hard working, dedicated volunteers, who worked so hard to redecorate the OHS Community Centre hall.

The hall, kitchen and corridor look great. Come and see the transformation for yourself at the Table Top Sale or the Chocolate Bingo in March (details to follow).

2004 Dogathon

It was a bright beautiful September day when the Pearly King of Streatham, Gerry Baxter, sent several dog walkers and their pets, including Christopher aged three and a half set off on a two mile sponsored walk. Gerry was very supportive of the event and agreed that this was a very good start to an anticipated annual Dogathon.  Next year it is hoped and anticipated that all the dogs and their walkers will spread word to family, friends, and neighbours to come along and join in, as those taking part this year seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves with no problems arising.

The Winners were Hayley Scott, Jay Ransom, and Tom Dickenson.  They each received a well earned Plaque and Christopher a selection box. To date the total raised is £321.75. This money will help to improve the Community Centre - as we are sure, all of you who use the Centre are aware that it needs to be brought up to standard, for our user groups and for possible future lettings.

This was a very pleasant way to raise funds for a Community project but much more is needed - so put your thinking caps on - and in the meantime get ready for the second Dogathon in 2005
