July 2005
The news this month is mainly to do with Faidha's monetary support. We promise to pay £12 per month for her schooling, but that also improves the conditions for her whole family.
Though the family still use an open field for their toilet needs - there is enough water during the rainy and dry season, which comes from a public stand pipe. This water is now safe to drink at all times. The mobile health clinic however, is still two hours away. It makes you ashamed to complain about anything, doesn't it?
We want to say a grateful Thank you' to everyone who has signed up and given £12 to Faidha. Not everyone who contribute belong to Onehouse Church, but they have been challenged to join her supporters and to be responsible for her education.
Finally, good news! There are still three months of this year left wothout sponsors. Please see or call Anne Moore if you want to help.
March 2005
We start another year of support for Faidha. She is our foster-child living in the community of Bali, in Kenya. The money we send keeps her in school where she is learning a mixture of English, Mathematics, Handicrafts and Simple Science.
The amount we send is still only £12 per month and we are looking for a sponsor for each month. It doesn't seem much does it? - but it could get her out of the poverty trap. If you would like to help - sign up on the rota which you will find on the notice board in the Church. You can give by cash or cheque (made payable to Onehouse PCC). We need your name so that you can be thanked and have a receipt. Payments can go to the churchwarden, Pauline Llewellyn, or the elders, Gloria Hall and Anne Moore.
Think what else you can get for £12 - three or four gallons of petrol, or one month's licence fee for the TV, or three bottles of a decent wine, or lunch for two in an Ipswich restaurant. How about giving up one of these transient things just once to give a lasting benefit for a small girl in Kenya?
January 2005
We have received the latest news of Faidha, including a picture of her with her mother Sidi and her new baby sister. Faidha was happy to tell us of the new family member delivered at home with a traditional birth attendant.
Her attendance at school continues - remember that school is a 45 minute walk away. Please tell your children this fact and see what they think. She is in the third grade and doing very well, her favourite lessons being sums, English and religion.
The family still use an open field or public area for their toilet facilities, but the latest news is that the village has a public standpipe which provides safe water to drink at all times. The mobile clinic is all they have when any illness occurs and that is two hours away! I, for one, will never complain again about getting to my health centre.
It costs £12 per month for Faidha to continue her education. The above news would not be complete without a sincere thanks to all those people who pledge their support for her by giving this money. 2004 has now been fully booked - but we are looking forward to 2005 and there is always room to support Faidha and her community. If you want to join her family support team please see Anne Moore and we will welcome your help.
P.S. There’s a lovely picture of Faidha in our church - come along and see her for yourself.
