Our team of collectors and fundraisers are so pleased about the way Onehouse residents have responded during Christian Aid Week. So many people have supported this and have been friendly and welcoming too. It does make collecting a pleasure even if it does take quite a bit longer! The children of one family who keep chickens were so touched by the appeal to buy chickens for a family in Mosambique that they donated their proceeds from several boxes of eggs.
A very enjoyable and informative wine tasting evening was held and all the money taken was gift aided and donated. Many thanks to Ron and Arlene Cruickshanks for this. It must have been a hard job doing all the research too.
The "Teas on the Terrace" afternoon must have been held on the only warm and sunny afternoon for sometime. The people arrived, the sun shone, the tea flowed, but would those trains run? Well, they did eventually! We had a lovely relaxing and sociable afternoon and the trains will be allowed a re-run during open gardens.
Your generosity has enabled the following donations to be made:
Door To Door Collection £371.33 + some gift aid
Wine tasting Evening £76.00 + 28% gift aid
Teas on the Terrace / Plant Stall £153.36
This year's Christian Aid Week celebrated the power of people to turn adversity into hope. There is massive human need around the world and it would be easy to give up. Raising money for Christian Aid changes lives. Even small amounts of money can make a difference. A sixth of the world's population suffers from chronic hunger, but for just £1, a family in Sierra Leone can be provided with enough rice seeds to grow food that will last all year. For as little as £10 a child in Ethiopia can be provided with safe, fresh water for life!
Christian Aid believes in strengthening people to find their own solutions to the problems they face and campaigns to change the trade rules that keep people poor. Did you know that half the world's population survive on less than £1.50 a day? And that unfair trade denies poor countries $700 billion a year? Voting for trade justice could help change this.
This year, will you add your voice to the campaign by voting for trade justice as well as contributing to the collection? You will help bring about a better life for people in poor communities around the world. Thank you.
